Mr. Heilberg has more than 31 years of experience, principally as a trial attorney. He received a BA in 1975 from Union College and his JD from Washington & Lee University in 1979. Mr. Heilberg started his private law practice in Charlottesville in 1982 after working for three years as the Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, Virginia. He represents clients throughout Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley. Mr. Heilberg handles criminal trials, civil trials and appeals in both the state and federal courts. Mr. Heilberg has tried more than 100 cases to juries, including capital murder charges. He has taught at continuing legal education seminars, college and law school, most recently as adjunct faculty teaching Trial Advocacy at the Washington & Lee School of Law. He is a member of the National and Virginia Associations of Criminal Defense Lawyers (VACDL), the Virginia Bar, the Virginia Trial Lawyer's Association and is a member of the Charlottesville - Albemarle Criminal (President, 1992-1993) and general Bar Associations. Mr. Heilberg has been a Board Member (2006 to present), Treasurer (2007 and 2008), Vice-President (2009) and President-Elect (2010) for the VACDL. Areas of practice include serious Felonies and Misdemeanors; DUI and Traffic Matters; Juvenile Criminal and Traffic Defense; State and Federal Appeals; Injuries from Automobile Accidents; Social Security Disability; Professional Malpractice; Personal Injury Cases; Civil litigation; Divorce, Custody and Support.
